  • An urgent message for all equal-rights advocates!

Hey, everybody.  In this day and age, people are becoming more and more open-minded.  I love to see that.  It fills me with hope that things will change someday soon.  People who are advocates of equality for all, regardless of sexual orientation or race or age or gender, are true blessings to society.  We need more people like this in the world.
Like homosexuals, though, I have a dilemma, and I need as much support as I can get.  See, my mom died when I was five, and I was an only child.  When she died, it was just me and my dad.  Over the years, he and I truly fell in love with each other.  I’ve done Google searches for petitions for people in my situation, but all I ever find are petitions for gay marriage and “equal rights,” (but when these sites refer to equal rights, they’re really only referring to gay rights).  So does anybody know of a site where there is a petition that shows support for marriages for people in my situation (and similar situations)?  Please?  I am 21, so I’m certainly of legal age, and my dad and I would greatly appreciate the same rights that straight couples have and that gay people are on their way to having.  So does anybody know of a petition that truly supports equal rights for all?

  • I’m always bothered when people see things in such a closed way that they will compare homosexuality to incest, pedophilia, beastiality- these matters are all very different. Just because one person might see them all as the same, does not mean they are. And just because not every ‘equality’ right can be satisifed, that’s not a good enough excuse to NOT provide a deserving group with what they have been asking/protesting for, for all this time. There’s a reason why all these people are protesting for gay rights (rather than incestual relationship rights) – because they have good reason to. Incest has primarily been an issue (other than sociologically- the mother/father take care of their offspring; not love them in a sexual manner) because of the biologically problems that would occur with reproduction. It’s bogus and desperate to compare this situation to the group effort of homosexuals fighting for something that causes no harm (biologically, or in any other sense.) In fact, I think it does more good because people who are ‘different’ may (over time) become more accepted, and cases of children needing to be adopted will be better because these children can have families. This is all a matter of opinion, but this is just my own take on this specific issue.

  • Way to go, Christopher. You illustrated the slippery slope pretty well with this one.

  • @Person -

That’s not the the reason AT ALL that incest has always been an issue. It’s been an issue since the beginning of time because it’s immoral and sick. Same reason homosexuality has always been an issue. You say the main reason it’s not allowed is because of the reproductive problems. Guess what–there are BIGGER reproductive problems with two men or two women having sex. It’s called biology. It can also be called nature, if you’re not into technical terms. It’s called never-intended-to-happen. Gay people are acccepted just as much as blacks accept whites and whites accept blacks. Yes, some people hate gay people, but over all, gay people are accepted. What is NOT accepted is gay marriage. Here’s some fun trivia for you: Did you know that STRAIGHT people aren’t allowed to marry whoever they want? Yup, it’s true! They are only allowed to marry non-related females. Neither gay NOR straight people are allowed to marry a relative. And neither gay NOR straight people are allowed to marry the same sex. NEITHER of them! There are ZERO rights that a straight person has that a gay person does not. Name me just one.
